Geographical indication products are the protection of intellectual property rights for products with unique characteristics, based on the knowledge and know-how of producers in a certain area, created by the influence of natural and human factors in that area. In the last 10 years, the development of geographically indicated products (GI) and their protection as intellectual property have improved significantly worldwide. As for Asian countries, with the introduction of the national GI registration system, more than 3,700 GIs have been registered in the region. It makes an important contribution to export and domestic economic development. The Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications approved on June 10, 2010 was amended and approved by the Parliament on May 6, 2021. In connection with the amendments to the law, it is necessary to revise and improve the definition of goods and products with geographical indications registered in Mongolia. Therefore, in collaboration with the Mongolian Intellectual Property Office and the project "Ensuring the stability of the ecosystem and agricultural management" implemented by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization with funding from the European Union, the revision of the Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications and products with geographical indications Training on how to develop and register specifications was organized.
