The Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations in Geneva and other international organizations, led by Ambassador L.Purevsuren, successfully participated in the 62nd Session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
During the assembly, officials of the IPOM held meeting with Andrew Ong, Director of Asia and the Pacific Division, David Simmons, Counsellor of Asia and the Pacific Division, Martha Chikowore, Academic Program Adviser at the WIPO Academy, Gao Hang, Director of Copyright Development Division, and Chen Lily, Senior System Development Officer, Copyright Management Division and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, the parties exchanged information on the implementation and progress of joint projects and programs, and exchanged views on some issues under negotiation, such as the development of intellectual property curricula in universities and training for teachers. Subsequently, WIPO agreed to develop and submit an intellectual property training program by the end of December 2021, and to take measures to involve employees in e-learning in the field of geographical indication. The parties discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting of high-level representatives of the Asia-Pacific Intellectual Property Office and a regional conference in Mongolia in 2022 in cooperation with WIPO.
In addition, a meeting on the possibility of introducing and using WIPO Connect software in the field of WIPO copyright management to Mongolia was held and it was decided to organize a series of trainings related to software in the future. The WIPO Connect software is an important program to support artists in the process of income distribution and to put copyrighted works into economic circulation.
