The signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia and the Intellectual Property Office of the Russian Federation” within the framework of the official visit of the President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh to the Russian Federation (Russia) took place on December 16, 2021 in Moscow.

The two countries' Intellectual Property Offices have been exchanging experiences, information, experts, and holding joint meetings and conferences under the 2003 cooperation agreement.

The Federal Intellectual Property Office of the Russian Federation is a federal agency under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. The Federal Intellectual Property Office has been working hard in recent years to digitalize operations, shorten searches and improve the legal environment, and is one of the top 10 agencies in the world in terms of the number of domestic and foreign intellectual property claims. For example, in 2017, the agency reduced the trademark search period to 8.9 months and the invention search period to 9.2 months, reducing the expected patent search period (32,877 applications) by 12% from 2019. By the end of 2020, the office had received 34,984 applications for inventions, 9,195 applications for utility models, and 93,926 applications for trademarks.
